Different Fibers: Fiber Flurry 2024

DIFFERENT FIBERS: the inaugural Juried Fiber Art exhibit and Excellence in Handmade Competitio at Fiber Flurry, the annual Fiber Arts Festival by the Arts Council for Wyoming County opened to the public April 12 and is on view through the close of Festival Saturday, April 27.

 

Different Fibers showcases stunning work by 20 highly skilled and accomplished artists: Liz Birardi, Amanda Brown, Luann Brubaker, Melissa Buckley, Robbin E. Dillon, Audrey Kay Dowling, Tami Fuller, Josephine Konvinse, Ellen Knapp, Jessica Krueger, Gerald Mead, Suzanne O’Brien, Ellen Owens, Barbara Park Leggett, Polly Stapley, Susan Swanson, Fileve Tlaloc and Elzi Volk.

Visitors to the exhibition can expect to see a diverse representation of handmade fiber art pieces from local artists curated around the ACWC’s 2024 theme of “Different.” Art and handmade fiber art from the following three categories will be displayed: “Handmade Useful, Handspun Skeins, and For Art’s Sake, as well as a fine art “fiber-adjacent” category for fine artists of all mediums.

 

The public will also be invited to help select the People’s Choice award; one of the sixteen awards to be presented at the show’s closing.

“Different Fibers” will be on display through the last weekend in April and will culminate with the presentation of awards at the end of the Fiber Flurry Festival on Saturday, April 27.

The COMMA

The COMMA Fine Art Gallery shares Blubird's home at 17 Elm Street. Co-curated and operated by myself and fellow artists Christina Paul and Liz Birardi, the gallery offers solo and group thematic exhibitions of work on a four-week exhibition schedule.

 

The COMMA’s mission is to support local and regional artists by providing quality exhibition space and professional support, with a primary goal of fostering community and encouraging the public to engage with art by showcasing fine work in an accessible setting.
